Mil Spec 550 Paracord (Type III MIL-C-5040H) is a cord made by a certified USA Government contractor like the Military uses. Military Camo 550 Paracord (Type III Special Mil Spec Type) is made to the same standard as Type III MIL-C-5040H but is not government certified. This cord is commonly known as Mil Spec 550 Parachute Cord, Mil Spec 550 Paracord or Mil Spec Paracord. There is an ID marker strand in Mil Spec Paracord used to identify the manufacturer. Some of our photos of Mil Spec Cord shows the inner strands. Even if a cord has a marker strand you can still check it’s authenticity by looking at the seven inner strands. When you unravel a inner strand on genuine Mil Spec cord it will have three pieces of cord per strand. Mil Spec cord has three ply (not two) inner strands. This 100% Nylon cord is smooth and pliable which makes it nice to handle. The high 550 lb. tensile strength gives it superior strength and durability. It resists rot, mold, mildew and UV damage. Assorted solid and camouflage colors are available. The many uses it has includes making key chains,lanyards, belts, slings, hammocks, shoe laces, gear repairs, survival bracelets and projects only limited by the imagination.
